Sometimes life doesn’t fall apart.
It simply gets smaller.
You stop asking for what you need because it feels easier not to.
You lower your expectations a little at a time. You tell yourself it’s fine. Good enough. Better than nothing.
One day you look around and realise you’ve become comfortable with things you never imagined accepting.
Not because you wanted less.
Because accepting less became your normal.
You rarely notice it happening
Accepting less is rarely one big decision.
It’s hundreds of tiny ones.
You stop correcting people when they interrupt you.
You keep wearing clothes that don’t fit because buying new ones feel selfish.
You stay in friendships where you’re always the one making the effort.
You tell yourself you’ll decorate the house later.
You’ll rest later.
You’ll travel later.
You’ll enjoy life later.
None of these choices seem significant on their own.
Together, they quietly teach you what you believe you’re worth.
Becoming HER isn’t about becoming better
Many women imagine becoming HER means changing everything about themselves.
Becoming fitter.
More confident.
More organised.
More successful.
But often the first is much simpler.
She stops accepting things that no longer fit.
She notices where she’s been settling.
Not from anger.
From self-respect.
You don’t become HER by adding more to your life. You become HER by accepting less of what no longer belongs there.
Less doesn’t always look bad
Sometimes “less” looks perfectly respectable.
A job that drains you.
A wardrobe full of clothes you never wear.
Conversations where nobody asks how you’re doing.
Weekends spent recovering instead of living.
Constantly putting yourself last.
Nothing dramatic.
Nothing worth explaining to anyone else.
But your body notices.
You begin feeling disconnected from your own life because you’ve slowly stopped participating in it.
Every small choice is a vote
The version of you you’re becoming is shaped by ordinary decisions.
What you tolerate.
What you repeat.
What you ignore.
Every small choice sends yourself a message.
“I matter.”
Or…
“I’ll do.”
Changing your life doesn’t always begin with chasing something bigger.
Sometimes it begins by quietly deciding,
“This isn’t enough for me anymore.”
Every time you choose yourself, you teach yourself what to expect from life.
Try this:
This week, notice one place where you’ve been accepting less than you truly want.
It might be:
- An unfinished project you’ve stopped believing in.
- A friendship that leaves you feeling unseen.
- Clothes that no longer feel like you.
- A home space you’ve stopped caring for.
- A promise you’ve been breaking to yourself.
Choose one small action that says,
“I deserve better than this.”
Nothing dramatic.
Just one small act of self-respect.
Reflection
Where in your life have you quietly lowered your standards to make things easier?
What would change if you believed your needs mattered just as much as everyone else’s?
